2009 Fastnet Race - Venomous
Saturday, September 19, 2009
The culmination of months of anticipation and training were rewarded with an exciting Fastnet finale for the crew of Venomous. The race started in variable winds and although according the RORC website Venomous was overall leader for some hours unfortunately this all ended when we were becalmed off Portland Bill where we kedged for some hours. When the wind filled in we had a beat all the way to the Fastnet Rock. The long awaited rounding of the Rock was shrouded in thick fog so we were rewarded with only a glimpse of the famous lighthouse. The spinnaker was hoisted at the rounding mark and held the entire way back to the finish at Plymouth. Venomous was 10th boat to finish and 20th overall on Handicap out of 300 other yachts.
